hello, again

after a brief hiatus of celebrations, welcoming a new decade, and rebranding efforts, i am back with a sneak peak at my winter line, already in progress. it might include something from this jar of vintage buttons i scored on a trip to pt. pleasant’s antique pavillion on saturday.

i snuck this shot of an original TIm Burton sketch while playing hooky to visit the artist’s life work on display at the MoMA a few weeks back, and there is no other way to describe the exhibit other than…amazing. truly inspirational to walk through a lifelong chronological sketchbook, but to also recognize the pen-and-ink details that made it all the way to blockbuster success. the translation from bar napkin to handcrafted figurine to animated character and beyond, Burton’s work was able to reignite my love for all things organically sketchy and playful yet dark in sculpted form.

books & jewels

j.crew fall 2009

champagne cheers to j.crew and their beautiful fall look. sparkling antique brooches, satin ribbon necklaces and delicate sweaters effortlessly at ease by a mountain stack of hardcover books. big points (in my book) for the black on white feather flourishes on the back wall. just lovely!

a love story

i’ve been really smitten with moo lately. i had always known them (through mutual friends) but we just recently got reacquainted and since then, they have the perfect first date, courtship, and now i am both smitten and loyal.

first, i followed them on twitter. finding them delightful and funny, i was instantly attracted to the refreshing mix of both resource and humor. did i mention generous? moo is giving away all kinds of fun things to celebrate their 3rd birthday (love it). over the next few weeks, i signed up for their MoosLetter (!) and casually browsed their site until one day, a beautifully designed email incentive truly sparked my lust – FREE PHOTO BUSINESS CARDS! surely i didn’t need any, but they could be so lovely, and given my collection of photography from around the world as well as moo’s totally reasonable shipping rates, i succumbed to the email marketing and ordered 2 sided cards with 50 of my images and personally designed the back panel (black, sans serif and sleek, naturally).

not long after i did the deed, moo reached – not at all overbearing… but with out with humble kindness and assurance my order was on its way, and i received it as scheduled and was delighted with the result.

we were made for eachother! how many times have i struggled to print my own photocards, spending a fortune on ink and paper but was quite thrilled with the end result? along comes moo from across the pond to save the day! since then we’ve grown pretty close, and i am loving their 3rd birthday campaign.

is it because every day i design email marketing campaigns with incentives that should be created with such consumer enjoyment considered? maybe. but i would like to believe it is that moo has truly mastered the art of customer service through technology and social media in a time when your business depends on it. i wasn’t really looking for this type of (vendor) relationship, but its a relief to know i am not too saturated to appreciate it.

can’t complain

when weekends start with fresh seafood and cold beer and end with homemade waffle ice cream sundaes (with bike rides, farmer’s markets, getting dirty on hikes, grilling, and sweet sunshine in between), one really can’t protest having to work so hard all week.

we’ve been celebrating

i try to keep myself far, far away from the computer screen on beautiful sunny summer weekends (and usually on rainy ones too). there has been much to celebrate these days: birthdays, reunions, life, and love.

seeking

i am lusting over the thought of owning my very own letterpress – doesnt’ need to be too large, just big enough to hand-set some type and sink it deeply into some beautiful paper, put a stamp on it, and send it to a friend. (snail-mail is a dying art)

if you should happen to find an orphaned letterpress in your travels, please contact me and i will see too it that it lives a long and happy afterlife.
